Leadership Matters

More evidence regarding the consequences of deregulation,
less government and hands-off management.
That works, until it doesn’t.
Of course, when all is well, there’s nothing to tell.
But as crises come, we see the wrongs.
Though at that point, it’s too late for reform.
Like Texas now, which is in a mess.
Because the government sanctioned for energy companies to do less.
They did not side with courageous for regulations.
They bowed to ineffective recommendations.
All in for privatization.
Which hasn’t been proven to be better than government.
History has shown again and again
When left to their own, corporations’ profits prevail.
Yet voters and Republicans continue with same.
Oftentimes, it’s the leaders that stay unscathed.
And the man on the street pays.
Not only is there a financial toll
That comes with the deception and lies we are sold.
It’s the suffering, death and devastation
That continue to plague citizens throughout the Nation.
Because of the deliberate decisions made by leadership.
That leave our communities less equipped.

Yet, these leaders being sent
Are the type many meant to be their government.
Choosing hypocrites, liars and cheaters
Even one who calls himself grim-reaper.
A Party that keeps straying people wrong.
Throwing red meat and blowing dog whistles.
Leading people to vote against their own interests.
Then these leaders decide
While disconnected from the reality of people’s lives.
How can the solutions they propose ensure that people survive?
Then where do people then go,
When their leader’s ship don’t meet the demands of the moment?
Where do they turn, when private can’t meet the scope of their burden?

Leaders need to understand and anticipate.
Not just dissolve and dissipate.
People should want leaders who lead
Not those who will just do what the voters feed.
Leaders who accept responsibility
And hold themselves and theirs to accountability.
But we shouldn’t demand perfection.
As politicians too are human.
Their job is to get all of the information
And with a good faith effort, make decisions.
We must realize, at times they will need to compromise
And they should explain any partial or epic fail.
Character is important so you can trust
That they will do right as they move forward.
Do what’s best and act with courage.
And how they do is important too.
Their moral and ethical choose
Is a reflection of those who voted them through.

When will Americans get out of their heads
The misinformation and lies being fed?
When leaders are voted in, they need to lead.
And Americans have to stop using perceive
As a measurement to determine success of government.
Go back to real and facts.
Track, not only what the leaders say but also what they do.
Knowing that character and motives matter too.
Some feel they don’t have the time.
Or the issues are too complicated.
Yet they make the effort the go down rabbit holes
And seek information that has been manipulated.

In life, we will have what’s out of our control.
And some of what we dislike are inevitable –
Like government.
Which though to a great extent,
We do have power to mold and mend.
Not just thinking of now or short term.
But also for future growth.
We can’t keep choosing characters.
And voting as if character doesn’t matter.
How many signals do we need from the Universe?
Warning that our decisions are against our own livelihoods?
They are becoming like a curse.
The ill-wills that we breed are winding US of breaths for our success.
That includes our choice of leadership.
We hire them as drivers.
But we can plot the course.
Because when they fail to deliver or get lost,
We have the power of the vote to move them out.
Not hold on for destroy –
Which appears to be the Republican voters’ call.
But when the sh_ _ hits the fan.
We all feel the splatter.
People need to get their heads out of the sand.
And realize that character and leadership do matter.
People should not forget
By the time the next election cycle comes along.
Or tell themselves, that the wrong was already done.
They put aside the pain and trying times.
To keep voting along Party lines.
Despite getting burned, no lessons learned.
Leading communities and the Nation to more down-turn.
