Standing Tough but Not For Much

Republicans have many statements with little to say.
So many words that don’t translate in a meaningful way.
No actions behind them.
No doing and no movement.
Just a pile, a heap, with nothing substantial to reap.
Lacking in truth and integrity.
Yet people choose to believe.
Even when there is proof against whatever they claim.
People stand with the Republican name.

Their words attacked Candidate Joe.
Attempts to discredit when he spoke.
But that didn’t work, so they tried a smear campaign to his wife and son.
Then that too had to be abandoned.
With nothing of substance to attack.
Biden’s dog Champ became the subject of Craig Kelley on Newsmax.
“Dirty and Disheveled” – the guest historian quipped.
The 12-year-old German Shepard may appear nondescript.
But he had a home and a family caring for him.
Imagine all is fair game for the Republicans’ vice grip.

Republicans say hate, trying to please their base.
Banking that there are sufficient bigots and racists around.
Or for whatever reason, enough Americans will just go along.
It’s not so farfetched it seems.
Their goals have been within their reach.
What does it say about America’s soul –
When Trumpian-Republican amorality holds?

Marketing, branding, labeling –
Trump’s winning formula for manipulating.
Buzz-words, catch phrases, simplification.
Steering minds to their destination.
Hooking people to think that there is a quick fix to complicated.
That truth becomes real just by repeating statements.
Simplified is glorified.
American is about your freedom and your rights.
Writing policies and giving answers by tweet.
Not using our brain for abstract, limiting ourselves to concrete.
Knowing how to grab attention and keep people listening.
Then it’s down for the count.
Pulled in so deep, people are not motivated to find a way out.
So they see only Black or White.
Are able to swing only Left or Right.
Believing in a forced choice of for or against.
To prevent their pain, they must reduce another’s gain.
Battling in a culture war.
Streamlining to their cause.
People swallow it all down.
Forgetting about compromise, moderate and middle-ground.
This is to what Republicans have grown.
Taking seeds from what Trump sowed.
And many agree to have this bloom.
Quickly sucking the oxygen out of the room.
When will Americans break from his trance?
Quit the Trumpian-Republican dance?
Refuse to be putty in the hands of those who are
not there for charity but are there to increase their status
and feed their greed.
Trying to keep their power in sight.
There is no outcry or objection from the right.
None with decency or courage left.
So afraid of political death and other threats.
Content to sit on the sidelines.
As they watch their side do harm.
Staying silent when mistreatment has become the norm, if you’re a Republican.

Sometimes the very culprits are the highlighters of the subject.
It should be seen as an opportunity to come clean.
Not to promote dishonesty.
There is always an obligation to stay true and real.
Practice what you preach.
Your words and actions should stay within your reach.
You should be, the best student that you teach.
We won’t be perfect that’s for sure.
But our mistakes and failures are signs and should inspire improvement.
Perfection as a destination is a futile goal.
But we should takes steps in the direction of meaningful growth.
Whether we like it or not.
We each possess a baton of cost.
Some to be paid off from our birth and the time we have on earth.
But when we leave, that baton is to be retrieved by others
or some aspect of the Universe.
So our words, deeds and legacy should strive to be for better and not for worse.
