A People’s Cry

How can anyone ignore the demise of People?
They are not asking for more, just for equal.
Don’t you hear their cries?
Can’t you see their pain?
As time goes by,
It gets more and more excruciating.
Just wanting to be accepted.
As Citizens and Human Beings.
But instead are often rejected.
As if their lives don’t matter or have no meaning.
Where is your heart?
What happened to your soul?
What has come over you that you can be so cruel?

Generations of people made to feel less than.
While expectations for them have been more than.
Being held to a different standard.
From the Man on the street to Nation’s Commander.

People of Color in these United States of America
Often feel like second class citizens.
Is anybody listening?
Inequality, injustice, systemic racism.
Not to mention more jail time and prison.
Education, housing, environmental pollution.
Problems identified – No plan for solutions.

If people who look like you have this experience –
Would you sit by and be complaisant?
Or would you think there should be a change?
That it’s time to end the pain and suffering?
As Americans and as human beings
Do we choose and judge based on the color of people’s skin?

Hopefully this is not a permanent transformation.
And we can stop being political and partisan.
Get back to a time when we value character.
When what we say and how we act really does matter.
A day when we can all stand together and “Build Back Better”.
