The last five years have exposed America and Americans.
Beliefs, thoughts, what drives the making of decisions.
What we value, are of importance, our aspirations –
For ourselves, others, in our leaders and for the Nation.
The World has been observing.
They have seen and learned a lot, that’s for certain.
Some stay with Republicans because that’s what they know.
How it has always been done –
The way their family members vote across generations.
Not taking into account
That life and circumstances are now different.
Some cling to Trump
Because they are, or want to be stubborn.
Disregarding all that goes on and what there is to come.
Standing for him, indifferent to the Constitution.
Allowing crimes against humanity.
Assaults upon democracy.
Treating our fellowmen irreverently.
While attackers and true enemies are met with pleasantries.
Changing the definition of – Love of Country.
Some want for Trump to stay on top
Because they don’t want what he does to stop.
They like the paths that are being paved.
They are in for making waves.
And they go all out for his save.
Some are fueled by Emotion –
Ignoring the chaos and destruction.
Or feeding off it like a new addiction.
Embracing hate, fear and anxiety.
Which are not based on fact or reality.
Others pursue money, riches, capitalism.
By what means they don’t care.
They will allow fascism.
Just as long as they get there.
Admiration of the strongman and oligarch.
Not cringing when Trump reaches to build a monarch.
Decisions made, not based on policy, outcome or humane.
Focusing on power, comfort level and name –
What can bring them a score, is to what they set their course.
This seems to reflect people’s thinking.
How they decide for their gain and in their personal living.
Prolific on aloof, uncaring and dismissing.
Scant on empathy, giving and forgiving.
Rewarding and reinforcing wrong and wrong doing.
Throughout the World, there is globalization.
Americans going for insolation.
As we are more vulnerable to pandemic threats.
Science is what Americans reject.
Our circumstances call for coordination and cooperation.
There is support for separation, division and individualism.
Even as Mother Earth mumbles, grumbles and shakes.
Many deny the effects of climate change.
Despite evidence of systemic injustice and inequality
To sections of society.
People still think that such instances are anomalies.
Belief that Republican rule is better for the economy.
When that is not what’s shown in the Country’s history.
If this is how Americans continue,
The results will not be for improvement.
More likely for slow on innovation and advancement.
Choices leading to limitations not expansions.
Benefits going to some –
But not preparing all for what’s to come.
We expect for our solutions to be effective.
Even when our assessments are defective.
By failing to recognize that flaw and the flaws in our thinking.
We’re choosing to sail on the Titanic
Ignoring the end result of her sinking.
And we may be able to go for a while and dismiss.
But there will be no place to hide, when disaster hits.
